Dr Susan Byrne is a paediatric neurologist in Children’s Hospital Ireland and a Senior Lecturer in FutureNeuro/Department of Paediatrics in RCSI. Her research interests are the genetic/epigenetic/evironmental mechanisms underlying normal and abnormal brain development with a specific focus on neurogenetic disorders of childhood. Together with her colleague, Dr Janna Kenny, Susan set up the CINDI (Collaboration for Intervention in the Neurological and Genomic disorders in Ireland) registry for children with known or suspected neurogenetic conditions. She co-leads the FutureNeuro clinical diagnostics programme. Working with Prof Jonathan Hourihane and team, she is the neurodevelopmental lead for the CORAL and FLORAL studies which look factors influencing allergy, microbiome and neurodevelopment in a pandemic and post-pandemic birth cohort.
