The In4Kids/CHI Young Persons Advisory Group (YPAG) made a significant impact at this year’s CHI Research and Innovation Day, with many attendees highlighting their contribution as a standout feature of the event.
YPAG members were actively involved throughout the day. The dedicated YPAG breakout session, chaired by In4Kids YPAG Coordinator Caoimhe, featured YPAG member Jess Dempsey and CHI YPAG Coordinator Sharon Rafferty, who shared practical advice on how to meaningfully involve young people in research, as well as outlining the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) supports available in CHI.
This was followed by a joint presentation: Co-creating patient information videos with a Young Person Advisory Group’ for an EB dentistry project from Dr Kate Kenny and YPAG member Rachael Doak-a great example of genuine collaboration in practice.
The YPAG poster, co-authored and co-designed by Polly Delvin and Maisie Keane, was proudly displayed in the exhibition space, reflecting the value of true partnership in research.
In addition, YPAG members took on key roles as oral and poster presentation judges and helped to run an engaging and informative YPAG stand. They were extremely well prepared (thanks to prior abstract training) and brought energy, insight, and enthusiasm throughout the day.
A fantastic example of the impact of Patient and Public Involvement and the importance of amplifying young voices in research.
“I absolutely loved being at CHI Research and Innovation Day, thanks so much for inviting me and allowing me to present. It was such a brilliant experience! I'm very glad to hear that everyone loved hearing about the YPAG” says YPAG member Jess Dempsey.
“Thank you so much for letting me help with the abstract and the poster presentations on Thursday. I had such a great time and really enjoyed the experience” states YPAG member Polly Devlin
“It was so much fun and I had a great time” YPAG member Ciara Kelly
