Metabolic Medicine (National Centre for Inherited Metabolic Disorders) The National Centre for Inherited Metabolic Disorders (NCIMD) at CHI is Ireland’s specialist referral service for children with inherited metabolic conditions. Our consultants work as part of a highly experienced multidisciplinary team providing diagnosis, acute care and long-term management for a wide range of metabolic disorders, many of which require lifelong monitoring and specialist dietary treatment. We support patients and families from across the country, offering coordinated, family-centred care alongside national advisory support to clinicians. For more detailed information on conditions treated, referral pathways and supports available, please visit the Metabolic Medicine service page.
Referrals Referrals to the NCIMD typically come from the National Newborn Bloodspot Screening Programme, and from tertiary and quaternary sources.
New referrals are accepted within the age-attendance policy of CHI, i.e. up to the eve of the person’s 16th birthday.
The NCIMD is recognised by the European Academy of Paediatrics (EAP) to provide training for medical professionals in paediatric inherited metabolic diseases.
