Family Advisory Network

Children's Health Ireland are committed to having patient and family engagement when designing services, developing projects or carrying out research. The patient experience team receives regular communications requesting family engagement and we now want to formalize how these requests are put out.

What is FAN?

The Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) Family Advisory Network (FAN) was formally established in April 2023. FAN was co-designed by CHI staff and CHI parents through CHI Family Forum meetings and workshops.

FAN is coordinated by the CHI Partnering with Patients Coordinator with support from the CHI Patient Experience team. FAN was developed for CHI to have a formal and consistent process for involving patients and families in CHI partnership and engagement activities.

What do they do?

The purpose of FAN is to involve families in CHI Projects, Design, Education and Groups.

What is the commitment?

There is no obligation to get involved in any of the requests. However, you will be kept informed of all requests for parent engagement and if you are interested and available to participate in any of the requests then you can volunteer for those.

  • Over the last 3 years you must have attended one of the CHI hospitals (CHI at Tallaght, Temple Street, Crumlin or Connolly)

What do I get out of joining the Family Advisory Network?

  • Help shape the CHI patient experience strategy
  • Knowledge that you’re trying to make things better
