Education
Paediatric Neurosurgery Outreach Education Programme
The Neurosurgical Department at Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street, Dublin has completed its first national outreach multidisciplinary education programme, visiting the 16 tertiary hospitals across Ireland before finishing with a day in Childrens Heath Ireland between Sept 2021 and February 2025. Planning for the next programme is ongoing.
The outreach education programme is the delivery of a bespoke study day in paediatric neurosurgery to healthcare professionals from acute and community services caring for children to each tertiary hospital with a paediatric unit. In this collaborative programme with the local Centres of Nurse and Midwifery Education and Clinicians, content is tailored to each units’ requirements and local teams contribute case presentations for discussion and learning. Presentations and workshops are delivered in by a neurosurgeon, an advanced nurse practitioner, a clinical nurse specialist and the service co-ordinator.
The objectives of the programme include providing a quality relevant learning opportunity that increases both theoretical and practical knowledge and building on and developing networks between this speciality service and regional healthcare professionals. Accreditation: NMBI CEUs 6 & RCPI CPD 6.
