Day Ward
The Day Ward provides care for children requiring operations under general anaesthetic, as well as medical investigations and infusions. In addition, the Ward also incorporates a 4 bedded Sunflower Ward for day of surgery admissions - which require a one-night stay after surgery.
Important information
If your child has had recent contact with or had any infectious diseases such as chickenpox, measles or the mumps, or has diarrhea and vomiting, please contact the ward.
The Day Ward is open Monday-Friday, between 07:00-20:00 Monday-Friday for Day Case procedures and open at night for day of surgery admissions.

If you receive a letter to attend the Day Ward it is important that you follow all the written instructions you are given.
Before you leave home, you must phone the hospital at the time given in the letter to confirm if your child’s bed is available. As the hospital is on 24-hour emergency call it is not possible to guarantee your child’s bed before the morning of admission. If there is no bed available, your child’s admission may have to be postponed and you could be given a new admission date.
