Rotating Fellows, Registrars and Senior House Officers support the consultant team in delivery of care to patients of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

The clinic runs every day from 7:30am to 9:30am.

Please arrive at the exact time you were given. The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery doctors or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) will be expecting your child at that time.

• Your child must not eat food before attending (fasting).
• Your child may drink breast milk and/or clear fluids until arrival, including:
  • Water
  • Apple juice
  • 7up
• The clinical team will advise you if any further fasting is needed once you arrive.
• Continue to give your child their regular medications before attending.
• We recommend giving your child pain relief before coming, such as:
  • Paracetamol
  • Ibuprofen (for example, Nurofen)

1. Please bring the referral letter given to you by your referring hospital / Doctor.
2. A small overnight bag in case your child needs admission and any items your child may need i.e. toys, blanket, medication.

Some children may need a procedure in the operating theatre under general anaesthetic (being put to sleep). The team will discuss this with you during your child’s review.

Because this decision is made at the time of review, the procedure is treated as an emergency. This means your child may need:

• A bed in the day unit or inpatient ward
• To be scheduled on an operating theatre list

We aim to carry out the procedure as soon as possible. However, there may sometimes be unavoidable delays. We apologise in advance if this happens. The team will keep you updated at all times.

If your child does not need surgery

If surgery is not required, we will refer your child to the next stage of care. This may include:

• A follow-up appointment in the PATCH clinic
• Your GP (family doctor)
• A Public Health Nurse (PHN)
• An outpatient department (OPD) appointment

Nurse-led wound care clinic

The PATCH clinic also runs a nurse-led wound management clinic for patients under the care of the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery team.

Clinic hours: 10:00am to 1:00pm

At this clinic, you may meet:

• Clinical Nurse Specialists
• Staff Nurses
• Healthcare Assistants (HCAs)

Preparing for your appointment

• Bring toys or items that help distract and comfort your child.
• Give your child pain relief (such as paracetamol or ibuprofen) one hour before the appointment
