Statement from Children's Health Ireland on Commission of Investigation

In relation to today’s announcement of a Commission of Investigation, we will work with the Government and our staff to ensure an efficient, fair and child-centred outcome. Full report can be found here.

CHI has accepted the findings of previous reviews and audits, made significant changes and remains committed to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement. We will be seeking more information on the terms of reference, planned processes, procedures and timelines so that staff can be prepared and adequately supported during this process while also minimising disruption to the delivery of clinical services.

CHI acknowledges the courage of the children, young people and families who have shared their experiences. Their voices must be heard, and where failings have been identified, they will be acknowledged, addressed and learned from.

At the same time, we must continue to look forward and we will continue to try to build trust as a provider of paediatric healthcare in Ireland.

Every day, families place their trust in CHI, and our dedicated staff provide care and expertise in highly complex circumstances. Access to care has improved and waiting lists are reducing, governance and oversight have been strengthened, and our teams remain focused on delivering safe, high-quality care.
