National AYA Cancer MDM
CHI hosts the National AYA Cancer MDM, which is chaired by our two AYA Consultants. The MDM takes place weekly on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays 1-2pm, via Microsoft Teams (with the option to attend in-person at CHI Crumlin on Tuesdays). The AYA Cancer MDM discussion is a complementary youth focused discussion, which occurs in addition to the local site-specific MDM.
The purpose of this MDM is to ensure that all AYA cancer patients have equitable access to the following:
- Comprehensive personalised care
- A holistic health needs assessment to help guide their management.
- Developmentally appropriate care
- Planning/confirmation of evidence-based management for each patient, in collaboration with the treating hospital
- Psychological oncology services
- Fertility preservation
- Education and career development support
- Palliative care (where appropriate)
The AYA Cancer MDM is also an important forum for continuing education of staff.
Please see Healthcare Professionals' section for details of how to refer to the MDM.
