Child and adolescent obesity

Referrals are accepted from:

• any consultant working in Children’s Health Ireland and;
• general paediatricians based in paediatric network sites outside Children’s Health Ireland.

General practitioners (GPs) and area medical officers (AMOs) who are interested in referring children to our service should follow the steps below:

1. Refer the child/adolescent to their HSE-primary care service for dietetic, physiotherapy and/or psychology assessment.
2. Refer the child/adolescent to a general paediatrician based in their locality for medical assessment.

Upon receiving your referral, the referral will be triaged and we will write back to you regarding the outcome of the triage process.

We offer both E-learning and Clinical Skills Training in childhood obesity to health professionals. Five hours of free online training is available at www.childhoodobesity.ie.

Following completion of the e-learning training, health professionals can apply for Clinical Skills Training. This includes an opportunity to attend our clinics and evening group sessions to provide insight and training into working with children with obesity.
