Child and Adolescent Obesity Service was established in 2005 as a response to increasing health problems associated with paediatric obesity.
We provide holistic assessment and management for children and adolescents diagnosed with obesity-related complications (BMI>99.5th centile plus two health complications).
We are a family-based service delivered by a multidisciplinary team.

The service delivers treatment in person and via telemedicine:
Assessment and management of children and adolescents diagnosed with obesity-related complications
One-to-one outpatient sessions (08.30-16.30) or group sessions (Thursdays 5.30 pm-7.30 pm)
At the appointment, your child may see the following health professionals:
Medical Social Worker
Your child’s doctor measured your child’s height and weight and found that they were above a healthy level for their age
This can affect your child’s health or well-being, so the doctor referred you to our service for support
The first appointment can be with your child or over the phone with parent/s only.The appointment will last 30-90 minutes and will take place in CHI at Temple Street or CHI at Connolly. The team will ask you questions about your child’s health, medical history, lifestyle, and concerns. Together we will make a plan to help your child be healthy and happy.
Check-in at the outpatient reception desk when you arrive
Dress your child in comfortable clothing (e.g. tracksuit) and runners
Upon receiving your referral, the referral will be triaged and we will write back to you regarding the outcome of the triage process.

We offer both E-learning and Clinical Skills Training in childhood obesity to health professionals. Five hours of free online training is available at www.childhoodobesity.ie.
Following completion of the e-learning training, health professionals can apply for Clinical Skills Training. This includes an opportunity to attend our clinics and evening group sessions to provide insight and training into working with children with obesity.
