Haematology Oncology Social Work Service

The Haematology Oncology Social Work Service is part of the wider Paediatric Haematology Oncology Multidisciplinary Team and the National Paediatric Psycho-Oncology Service.

Introduction

The Haematology Oncology Social Work Service is part of the wider Paediatric Haematology Oncology Multidisciplinary Team and the National Paediatric Psycho-Oncology Service. The social work team works alongside other healthcare professionals to support families and children with cancer or blood disorders, both in hospital and at outpatient appointments.

The social work team provides practical, social and emotional support to help children and their families deal with the challenges of diagnosis and treatment. This support is especially important during critical or complex stages of care such as new diagnosis, serious illness, or bereavement.

Referrals can be made by members of the multidisciplinary team or directly through a patient/parent/guardian referral.
