On July 14th, a key milestone for Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) was achieved with the successful implementation of the national Hospital Medicine Management System (HMMS) in the Pharmacy Department in CHI at Crumlin! The success of the go-live was a result of many months of work by the dedicated pharmacy team, led by Michael Fitzpatrick, Pharmacy Executive Manager and Moninne Howlett, Chief Pharmacy Information Officer.
This was a collaborative project with CHI Pharmacy and Digital Health departments working closely with the HMMS National Team and the vendor (Systems-C).
HMMS will be the system brought to our National Children's Hospital Ireland (NCHI). It will integrate with the Electronic Health Record and the Dispensary Robot, supporting closed loop medication processes. The CHI implementation builds on the successful implementations of HMMS in University Hospital Galway, Merlin Park University Hospital, Rotunda Hospital and St. Vincent's University Hospital as part of a national programme modernising how hospital pharmacies manage medication across acute and non-acute sites.
The benefits include:
- Safe, efficient care for patients
- Standardised drug procurement
- Improved financial reporting and inventory management
- Remote access from wards for pharmacy technicians
- Less reliance on paper-based processes
This is an exciting milestone as we continue work on the complete digital transformation of medication management for the National Children’s Hospital Ireland (NCHI).
