NCHI Operational Activity on Level 6

The National Children’s Hospital Ireland (NCHI) has begun receiving and accepting deliveries of fire-retardant, foot-pedal, hands-free waste management bins.

The bins are colour-coded to support correct waste segregation:

• Yellow for the disposal of clinical waste,
• Green for recyclable materials
• White for general waste management materials.

The National Children’s Hospital Ireland (NCHI) is implementing Zebra label printers for patient ID bands to enhance accuracy and safety in patient identification. These printers produce durable, high-quality wristbands that clearly display patient information, helping to reduce errors and streamline workflow. By integrating this technology into daily operations, NCHI ensures that patient identification is reliable, efficient, and aligned with best practice standards in healthcare.

NCHI has introduced the Automated Drug Dispensing System (ADDS) to improve medication safety and efficiency. This system automates the storage, dispensing, and tracking of medications, reducing the risk of errors and ensuring timely access to the correct drugs for patients. By streamlining the medication management process, ADDS supports clinical staff in delivering safe, accurate, and efficient patient care.

Monday, 26th January 2026, marks a significant milestone for the Commissioning team as they begin receiving deliveries of patient beds and cots for Level 6. The team faces a busy week ahead, carefully distributing these essential items to their designated areas.

Operational commissioning is now in full swing, and it’s an exciting moment to witness history in the making as CHI prepares to officially commission NCHI level 6 for day-one services.
